Focus on Faith

When our children were in their teens, a high school senior friend (a daughter of a local pastor) was involved in a serious auto accident that threatened her ability to ever walk normally. Doctors predicted her chances to recover completely were only about one percent.

Blanco United Methodist Church kicks-off a new season by celebrating special people in our lives at both services, 8: 30 and 10: 55a.

Good preachers, bless ‘em, are made of sturdy stuff. They are sitting ducks for criticism, and, as moving targets, usually can’t move fast enough.

Faith is absolutely necessary to receive from God. Our God is not a need God; He is a faith God. Right standing (acceptance) with God comes through faith (trust & confidence).

I was disappointed to learn that a once vibrant church was about to close. Learning about those looming locked doors brought memories of days when that church had been one of the most active in the community.

Jesus said Mark 8: 38 - “If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels. "

On Saturday, July 19, 2008, Mary Louise {“Skip”} Brasher was Ordained to the Office of Pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America [ ELCA ]. Surrounded by nearly 200 clergy, family, and friends at her home congregation, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Wimberley, the Reverend Doctor Ray Tiemann, Bishop of the Southwestern Texas Synod, presided at the Rite of Ordination. The Service of Holy Communion was celebrated by long-time friend, the Reverend Louis Flessner, retired Pastor of “Higher Ground,” the nationally acclaimed Campus Ministry program at Texas State University in San Marcos.

6-year-old Not ‘Defeeted’...

The aura of a special day added to the enchantment of a special place, beautiful Bryant Park in Manhattan. The weather was made to order, unseasonably cool, and a few thousand people—most of them visiting gawkers like me—adorned the grassy pallet of green.
