Mackenzie Ray, daughter of Faith Ray and Danny Ray was crowned 2008 Blanco Homecoming Queen on Friday, September 26, 2008 before the Blanco-Randolph football game.

Keep Blanco Beautiful (KBB) will be launching a CIGARETTE LITTER PREVENTION PROGRAM in Blanco, Texas, in October, 2008. The board of directors of Keep Blanco Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc., is proud to announce that it has adopted the national Cigarette Litter Prevention Program for local use.

The Blanco High School Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America Chapter recently sent a team of officers to participate in a special opportunity—the chance to be part of the 2008 Youth Leadership Day at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, Texas. The officers traveled to Dallas after the Homecoming football game to participate in the annual event on Saturday, September 27, 2008.

Several Blanco FFA members spent this past weekend competing in one of the state’s largest prospect steer shows in Hondo at the annual Medina County Fair. Overall, more than 230 steers competed in this year’s show, representing sixteen different breeds of cattle. Senior Katie Baker and Junior Quaid Haack each brought home a reserve breed champion.

The Blanco Middle School staff had their very own Medal Ceremony during their first week of inservice to recognize the hard work of all of the staff during the 2007-2008 school year. The Middle School campus was pleased to receive a Recognized rating from the Texas Education Agency in July.

SEGUIN – Sept. 18, 2008 – Representatives from Texas Lutheran University are inviting all college-bound high school students and their parents to the Tatsch House at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in Fredericksburg, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28. TLU admissions staff, alumni, and current students will be on hand to answer questions about choosing the right college, scholarships and financial aid, the application process, and Texas Lutheran University.

Grandparents day was held on Friday, September 5, 2008. It was a huge success. Over 150 visitors came to enjoy ice tea and cookies in the children’s classrooms. Many visitors commented on how they enjoyed being able to relax and enjoy the company of their Grandchildren while visiting with the child’s teacher as well.

Members of the Blanco FFA chapter started the year by electing officers for the 2008-09 school year. Secretary-Shelby Moore, Vice President-Katie Baker, Vice President-Claire Klepac, Reporter-Kaleigh Anderson, Treasurer-Keaton Dodd, Student Representative-Grady Childress, Sentinel-Quaid Haack, Advisor-John Pepper, and President-Corey Dowlearn.

Come Join the 2008 Homecoming Honk Around Parade and Pep Rally! The theme for this year is “Panthers Go To The Movies” Wednesday, September 24 The parade starts at 6:00pm and the pep rally immediately follows at the stadium
