Blanco ISD schools will celebrate Texas Public Schools Week March 8 – 12 with several activities, including Open Houses at each campus. The 5th Annual Project Graduation dinner will be held on Wednesday, March 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Rockin’ R Steakhouse, 318 Fourth Street, Blanco. This year Chef Bud Bouldin is preparing a wonderful menu and the price will be very reasonable so that everyone can attend, have great food and support this wonderful event. Project Graduation is a program for high school seniors to celebrate graduation at an all night, chaperoned, drug, alcohol and smoke free event.
For two straight weeks, Blanco students have been actively competing in the San Antonio Livestock Show. Local students have been taking part in educational opportunities that teach life skills, responsibility, dedication and career development. By involving themselves in these hands-on training projects, students also develop leadership and social skills, which will make them vital members of the community.
KERRVILLE, Texas – The Hill Country Region offices of Capital Farm Credit (CFC) announce their 2010 scholarship program. CFC will award $10,000 in scholarships to students pursuing a degree in education or an agricultural-related field of study. Students from the following counties are eligible: Bandera, Blanco, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Llano and Mason. Capital Farm Credit, Texas’ largest rural cooperative lender, has a tradition of supporting local youth.
Texas Tech University at Fredericksburg and the Hill Country University Center have rescheduled an information session (previously canceled due to snow) on navigating the College Financial Aid process for Thursday, March 11, at the Fredericksburg High School Library at 5:30 p.m. Financial aid advisors will give a presentation, answer questions, and assist students with application forms.

The Blanco chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America attended the Region V Meeting held in Corpus Christi, Texas on January 29 – 30, 2010. The chapter members were among 1,200 delegates attending the two-day conference. The youth developed theme, “Beyond the Limits” was carried out through tracks featuring a series of specialized workshops and general sessions in which members discovered ways to become actively involved in issues facing today’s youth.
The Blanco PTO met for its monthly meeting in February. Several items were on the agenda. The PTO once again held Chocolate Covered Strawberry and Pretzel Sales for Valentine’s Day, and the group made over $1800 in sales. The group discussed and voted to provide playground balls and jump ropes, etc that are grade level appropriate at the elementary school at a cost of about $1000. The Texas Water Symposium, a joint initiative of Schreiner University, Texas Tech University, Texas Public Radio and the Hill Country Alliance, has announced its first student essay contest for elementary school (grades 3-5), middle school and high school students.
