The Lady Panther softball team played outstanding defense, winning four games and securing first place in the 7th Annual Blanco Panther Softball Tournament. The Panther’s faced the Llano Yellow Jackets first, who jumped out in the lead, 2-0, scoring one run in the first inning and another to keep the lead in the fourth inning.
After a strong start to the season, and a solid showing in the Blanco tournament this past week, the Blanco Baseball team traveled to Ingram to take part in the Annual Warrior Classic. The Panthers improved on their past week’s success, advancing to Saturday’s championship game. On Thursday, the Panthers began the tournament with a strong performance defeating San Antonio Lanier 10 to 0 behind a strong pitching performance from Grady Childress.

The Blanco Panther Baseball Team spent the past weekend hosting the 5th Annual Blanco Baseball Tournament. After beginning the season with an easy win on Monday, the Panthers continued their solid play. They picked up three wins on Friday, only to finish 1 and 1 on Saturday, taking 3rd place overall. In the first game Friday morning, Blanco avenged last year’s loss to Llano’s JV by a score of 21 to 0.
The Panther softball team played in the Austin ISD Softball Tournament at Kriegfield on February 26 and 27. In their first pool game, the Blanco girls scorched Sommerville 16-2. Chandler Ashley pitched for the win. Lacee Hunter batted 2 of 3 with a double, triple, and an RBI. Angel Williams hit 2 of 3 for two singles and two RBI’s.

The Blanco Panther JV Baseball Team showed a lot of promise in their season opener this past Monday. However, their overall inexperience also showed resulting in a final score of 8 to 8 against the visiting San Antonio Wolverines. Due to time, the Panthers were unable to continue into extra innings but picked up the win as a result of more total runners reaching second base. On Tuesday, February 16, the Blanco Lady Panthers lost their bi-district match-up against the Navarro Lady Panthers with a final score of 66-75. It was a rough game filled with many fouls and technical fouls. The Blanco team led 20-17 at the end of the first quarter and 58-52 at the end of the third quarter.
The Blanco Panther Varsity Baseball Team wasted little time in collecting the season’s first win as they scored in every inning to pick up a 15 to 1 victory over the visiting San Antonio Wolverines. Jr. Clint Dreyer would go the distance on the mound picking up his first win of the year as he scattered 5 singles while striking out 5 and walking just 2 batters.
On February 16, the varsity softball team captured a 16-1 victory in their season opener against Keystone of San Antonio. Catcher Alex Gustafson went 3 for 3 batting with 1 RBI. Angel Williams, Callie Culton, Kelsey Schwind and Hayley Fishbeck each batted 2 for 3. On February 19, the Lady Panthers faced a tough 4A opponent, the Hays Lady Rebels.

Varsity Lady Panthers Head to Play-Offs; Take on Navarro
The Varsity Boys completed their season with a 47-45 win against the Johnson City Eagles on February 9 and a 21-60 loss to the Cole Cougars on February 12. In the Johnson City game, Tanner Rogers scorched the net with five 3-point shots to lead the Panthers. Austin Carrola added nine points and Blake West scored eight.
The 2010 camp will be held March 15 and 16 at the Blanco Baseball Field from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Second - sixth graders pay $35, seventh and eighth graders attend free. Camp t-shirt, hat and snacks will be provided. Campers will receive instruction in all aspects of baseball/softball. For an application, see Coach Seales at the Middle School or Coach Wyatt at the High School. Deadline to register is March 3.
