Blanco Prevails in Defensive Struggle
The 2010 football season started with a bang for the Blanco Panthers, who took the season’s opening kick-off and drove 77 yards for their first score of the year. However, it would not be until their final drive of the night that Blanco would score again, as their game with the visiting Canyon Lake Hawks turned into a defensive battle. Team VIP competed in Corpus Christi at Mary Jane’s Gymnastics Center on Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23. VIP Teams included Level 4 Achievement (Haley Chappell, Lexus Carton, Miranda Bosquez, Anna Johnson, Morgan Haby, Amalie Mills, Skylar Maurer and Hannah Ford). Level 4 Placement (Zoey Madigan, Meghan Cleveland and Jordan White).
With one week of practice behind them, the 7th and 8th Grade Panthers have moved up to the next level; it’s time to put on the pads. The rituals of drills, sprints, and plays will now include the onslaught of percussion, that invigorating sensation mandatory in football. The Blanco Panthers met up with the Mason Punchers at Panther Stadium on Thursday, August 19 in a pre-season scrimmage that allowed both teams to prepare for the new season. The Panthers came out strong in their debut at Panther Stadium, with a strong defense and a talented offense. Orthopedic surgeons are teaming up with rehab specialists to offer free orthopedic and physical therapy evaluations to middle and high school athletes on Saturdays beginning August 28. The 2010 Blanco Major Girls All-Stars had a great end of season run this year. The girls won the District 26 Championship in the tournament played in Fredericksburg, July 3 through July 9. The team of 11 and 12 year olds were undefeated champions over other All-Stars from Wimberley, Burnet, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, and Center Point. The girls, parents, and coached then traveled to San Angelo to play in the West Texas Section 3 Tournament.

Three key members of the 2010 Blanco Panther Baseball team have received scholarships to continue playing baseball at the collegiate level. Pictured are head coach Bryan Wyatt, along with assistant Jason Marek, as Brooks Wyatt, John Pepper and Tyler Tredaway sign their scholarship offers and letters of intent. Brooks has accepted a scholarship to attend and play baseball for Ranger College, while John and Tyler have signed to play for Odessa College.

The Blanco High School Varsity Cheerleaders, along with the Varsity mascot, attended the Universal Cheerleader Association (UCA) Cheer Camp at the University of Texas in Austin from July 6-9. The Varsity squad, which consists of Briar Koehl and Kaitlyn Walla (captains), Hillary Calzoncit, Sidney Oliver, Presley Savarino, Callie Culton, Paxston Koehl, Kelsey Schwind, Megan Andrews, and Katy Petri, received seven superior evaluation ribbons for their chants, cheers, and dance routines.
Blanco beat Hill Country, a team made up of Comfort/Center Point/ Ingram, to clinch the district championship on Friday night in Burnet. Other teams in the tournament were Fredericksburg, Burnet, and Wimberley. This win advances the team to the Sectional tournament in Uvalde starting on Friday, July 16 . Good Luck All-Star team.
