Dear Editor, Regarding the cement pole on 3rd and 281, I don’t know why the “Art” building and its members don’t paint the pole with Lavender or something that will advertise Blanco. It would be a whole lot cheaper than removing it and putting in another pole, which will not be as nice as this one with no wires to stabilize it on the ground!
Dear Editor, Senator Troy Fraser and Representative Patrick Rose have really been cranking up the volume in their attack on the PEC. At the August PEC Board meeting, they denounced the Board – one which, for the first time, was elected by PEC owners (that is, its members). During his comments, Fraser threatened to dissolve or “break-up” the co-op.

Dear Editor, The campaign sign I put in my yard supporting Bill White for Governor was removed and replaced with two Perry signs Tuesday morning. I am especially disappointed because I taught Bill at Churchill High School in San Antonio and know him to be a decent, intelligent, compassionate man. I thought I had a right to support him with a sign on my property, but the Perry people, it seems, disagree.
Dear Editor, I wish that we could spend more time trying to prosecute the felons that have dumped cats at various locations throughout Blanco County rather than pursing the charitable acts of persons who have been feeding and caring for these victims of human irresponsibility. Animal abuse is a felony in the state of Texas and the dumping of animals is surely animal abuse. Spaying and neutering of cats has been proven to improve the lives of stray and feral ca ...
Dear Editor, The Hill County 100 Club has received reports that some telephone solicitation contractors for the Texas State Troopers Association (TSTA) have been claiming that the 100 Clubs spend 95% of their money on marketing. In the case of the Hill Country 100 Club and others we are familiar with, they have it just about backwards.

Dear Editor, Racism is an obsession with one’s race. As an obsession, it dominates the thought and life of the racist. He seeks and finds opposition in anyone outside his race, and his worst epithet is to call them that which he is most guilty of: “Racist”. The Attorney General is a member of the President’s Cabinet and is the lawyer in charge of the prosecution of offenders of Federal law.

Dear Editor, In response to last week’s article “Modern Agriculture Feeds Billions in a Sustainable Manner”- I’m neither a farmer nor an agricultural expert, but I do participate in the modern food supply chain (as we all do). This article posted by the TX Farm Bureau coincides with the arrival in the mail of the TX Farm Bureau’s “Texas Neighbors” magazine.

Dear Editor, I grew up in Blanco and wanted to take my family back home for a small-town Fourth of July celebration. I was excited to find out that Johnson City was having an all-day event to celebrate Independence Day, so we went. Unfortunately, the short parade left much to be desired for my five-year-old, but we took a detour to the Pedernales Falls and enjoyed the cool water and beautiful scenery.
Dear Editor, We’d like to express our support for the views of Connie Barron as published in last week’s edition of BCN. She was concerned about the “variance” granted by the Blanco I.S.D. for construction of a “big box” convenience store at Hwy 281 and 13th Street. Her concerns about the economic impact such a store might have on already established businesses in Blanco are certainly valid. It is one thing to allow a ...

Dear Editor, As I read the Blanco County News last week, I saw that the Blanco I.S.D. school board considered a variance for a convenience store to be built at Hwy. 281 and 13th Street. Out of curiosity, I began to dig a little deeper to better understand just what was being proposed, especially given how close to our square this new establishment would be. The proposal is for a 4,800 sq.
