First, the Blanco Cemetery Association would like to thank the Blanco Historical Society for the beautiful Historical Medallion that was placed by the gate of the old cemetery. It is a wonderful addition to the cemetery. The medallion honors the past, and will have the admiration of the present and the future.

High-speed broadband Internet connections are cheap and prolific in larger cities. According to one company, Blanco should be hooked up soon.

Everyone is invited to a big barbecue on the banks of the Pedernales River, reminiscent of one held by Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson at their Stonewall ranch in 1967. The Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park and the Friends of LBJNHP are joining forces to re-create the presidential barbecue held to honor members of the Organization of American States.

David Key, co-owner of Treetops Ranch, was awarded national recognition in New Orleans recently when he was presented with the Living Legends of Dance award by Triple Crown Dance Championships of the USA. The award was given by the producers and directors of the Triple Crown Dance Championships, Larry and Dianne Dean.

K & C Supply has taken over where Blanco Valley Farm & Ranch Supply left off. After almost ten years in business, former owners Jeff and Kimberlea Mayfield decided to retire.

Young Life recently acquired a new area director, Stephen Mackey, from College Station, Texas. They are very excited to welcome him to this area!

The April Chimney Valley EEA meeting was held at the home of Jan Redmond with nine members and one guest present. Members were reminded of the upcoming exhibit at the Blanco Library, TX Rural Women at Work 1930-1960, to be on display at the Library during the month of May. Chimney Valley, Ranch HiWay and Round Mountain EEA Clubs, along with the Friends of the Library, are sponsoring the exhibit from Humanities Texas.

Sooner or later, Blanco County will have a health disaster, and your neighbors will need your help. It may just be a bad flu season; we've had some of those in the past few years.

The KBB beautification volunteers were busy today spreading a large pickup load of cedar mulch on all of the beautiful plants in front of the city hall and in the Bindseil Park. The mulch was donated by the new beautification volunteers, Linda Howard, Charles Rothenbach, and Robert Stafford. The city yard, Bindseil Park and Byars Building landscaping are all designed by Judy Dorsett, planted and maintained by Keep Blanco Beautiful.

CTMC Hospice Care provides a safe and comfortable environment through its grief support groups to express the feelings you may experience due to the death of a loved one. State and national hospital political action committees have named Lucille Rochs of Fredericksburg as a 2007 Most Valuable PAC Player. Lisa Kepple, director of HOSPAC, the Texas Hospital Association’s political action committee, said Mrs.

The Blanco Rodeo Association will be holding a Tiny West Memorial PBR bull riding on Saturday, May 3rd at Yett Memorial Park in Blanco, TX. Activities will begin Friday evening May 2nd with DNZ Rodeo Company junior bull riding event to begin at 5: 30 p.

Wells should be tested annually. The Blanco County office of Texas AgriLife Extension is sponsoring a water well screening day for area residents on May 6th at the the Blanco County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.

This year’s One Book, One Community program, offered annually by the Blanco Library, is featuring a book based upon the work of the StoryCorps Project begun in New York after the 9/11 attack. “Listening Is an Act of Love” is the book selection, and copies are now available at the library.

Bonnie Dworaczyk and Richard Palmer, Jr. were united in marriage on March 15,2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blanco, Texas. The two families became one at a ceremony and celebration on April 19, 2008.

Trey and Kary Phipps happily announce the birth of their son, Trent Matthew. He was born April 18, 2008 at Seton Southwest in Austin, TX. After 8 years of planning, preparation and many prayers, the members of Blanco Cowboy Church opened the chute gates on Saturday morning, April 26th, for their 1st Annual “Roping For Jesus” Team Roping held at Yett Memorial Park and Blanco Rodeo Association Arena. God’s clear blue Hill Country skies greeted cowboys and cowgirls traveling into Blanco from the north, south, east and west, and by 10 a. m.

Robert Wilson Riddell, 91 was born September 30, 1916 in Round Mountain, Texas to James Hugh Riddell and Linnie Bell Herrington Riddell. Robert was born into a family of six children, one that died at an early age. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen Maxine Riddell.

Theodore Nelson Withers, 83, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 in Fredericksburg, Texas. Nelson was born August 13, 1924, to W. H.

Viola Mary Sultemeier Lindig of Hye, Tx, born on September 27, 1923, passed away on April 22, 2008 at the age of 84. She was proceeded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, and her husband, Clifton Lindig of over 55 years.

It has been brought to my attention that several people within our community have been misled with untruths and false statements regarding our facilities and the rumor of a bond referendum at Blanco ISD. The following article should clear up the misunderstandings.

Dear Blanco Community, Family & Friends, I know you have heard many times about what a beautiful place Blanco is. The rivers, the deer along the road, the fresh air, the stars at night and small town hominess.

The Blanco FFA has spent the past two weeks competing in district and area competitions. With 16 schools competing in the Hill District FFA and over 100 schools representing the Area VII FFA, all judging competitions have proven to be extremely competitive.

Prom night is probably the most anticipated night of the year for teens and one of the most dreaded by their parents. Although most teens think they know everything about how to stay safe, parents know otherwise. And, according to safety experts, it will take more than just talk to ensure a safe evening for all.

The Tejas Art Club sponsored an art contest for Blanco High School students. Twenty-two students created wonderful pieces of art to enter the contest. The judging was held at the regular meeting of the Tejas Art Club, Thursday April 17.

The entire Blanco First grade was able to visit Sea World in San Antonio on Tuesday, April 22. It was a fantastic experience for all the students and their parents.

The Blanco Softball team defeated the Ozona Lions 17-3 to claim the Bi-district championship this past Thursday. Sarah Isenberg was pitching for the Panthers facing 22 batters ; striking out 4,and allowing 3 runs on 2 hits.

How do you celebrate after just playing your friends? On Tuesday, April 22, the two Major League girls softball teams from Blanco played one another. The Queens of Swing beat the Angels with Attitude in a close game that ended 8-6.

After starting the season 0 and 4, and just one year from a third place finish in the district, the Blanco Panther Junior Varsity Baseball Team is back on top having won the District 8-AA Championship. For the season, the Panthers finished on a roll having won 11 of their final 12 games to finish the year 11 and 5. As a team, the Panthers’ pitching staff was credited with 5 shut-outs, while offensively the team run ruled 5 opponents and scored 20 or more runs in a game 3 times.

Every two seconds someone in America needs blood, including patients across south Texas. Blood is especially needed during the summer season because schools are out and families are on vacation, therefore impacting the community blood supply. The hour that it takes to donate is a lifetime for someone in need.
