Blanco residents are reminded to start collecting unwanted items now in preparation for the city’s 9th Annual Trash-Off Day Saturday, April 5th. Persons living inside the city limits may dispose of old appliances, TV’s, lawn mowers, air conditioners, furniture, etc. |

The issue of density was raised by several residents in the Public Comments section of the March 11 meeting of the governing body of the City of Blanco. Julie Dill expressed the view that greater density does not necessarily equate to crime and drug abuse. In fact, she said, there is a trend toward smaller, eco-friendly homes in areas such as Austin. |

In the open forum portion of the BISD trustees’ meeting March 10, Democratic Representative Patrick Rose expressed his support of the school district in the face of the “fumbling and bumbling” of the Texas Legislature in regards to school finance. “Our school district needs to be vigilant,” he urged, referring to the increase in property values in Blanco County which may put the district in the Chapter 41 category. “Anything we can do to improve the state’s share (of school funding) will keep us out of Chapter 41 and keep property taxes low. |

The members of the Ranch Hiway Club of the Blanco County EEA met Tuesday, March 4, in the meeting room of the Blanco Library. President Gwen Risinger presided. As an opening exercise, Gwen presented the most interesting Jelly Bean Personality Test, predicting the personality of each member by the color of Jelly Bean she chose. |

Members of Blanco Woman’s Club Civic Department chose new superintendent Cliff Gardner as their speaker for the March meeting, held at the Blanco Library. Department chair Shirley Beck introduced Gardner, citing the longtime close relationship between the school district and the community. Gardner broke the ice with the group, joking that he is glad that “You women can vote and congregate. |

The Blanco Elemtary PTO had wonderful success with their Buy-A-Bunny fund raiser. They collected over $250 for a community service project to provide a happier Easter to many different families. A special thanks goes out to Super S and Hobby Lobby for their additional donations and to all the students who participated by purchasing the paper rabbits that decorated the school hallways. |
