Several Blanco FFA members spent this past weekend taking part in the Dripping Springs Fall Classic Livestock Show, held at the Blanco County Show Barn in Johnson City. Overall, 17 Blanco FFA and Blanco Junior FFA members exhibited livestock in this year’s show.

Leading the way for Blanco, was be Keaton Dodd. Keaton exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Steer of the show with his Champion American Breed Cross. He would also show a 3rd place Limousin. Others placing high in the steer show included Kaleigh Anderson with the Champion Simbrah and a 2nd place Limousin and a 4th place Chianina. Katie Baker also showed a champion in the Red Angus division along with a 2nd place in both the Brangus and Maine-Anjou classes. Shelby Moore took top honors in the Angus division being named champion, in addition to winning Reserve Champion Santa Gertrudis and 3rd place in the Chianina division. Spencer Moore also did well placing 2nd with his Limousin, while Quaid Haack also took home two 2nd place ribbons with his Brahman and Simmental steers. In all, there were almost 100 steers shown.

The swine show also saw several local students do well with Cody Perez placing the highest with a 3rd place Hampshire. Also placing in the Hampshire division were Susannah Campbell 6th, Reilly Burnett 8th, and Coleton Stephenson 8th. In the Duroc division, Jonathan Campbell finished 5th, while Perez took home another ribbon in the O.P.B. class placing 6th. Finally, Malinda Campbell also took part in the swine show participating in the showmanship class. Overall, there were more than 200 hogs in this year’s show.

Although the goat show saw just one local FFA member, Will Byler proved to be competitive in a show that featured more than 200 entries.

Finally, the day concluded with the lamb show and four more local FFA members doing well. Brothers Trevor and Tyler Hardin each placed two lambs. Trevor exhibited 1st and 2nd place crossbred lambs, while Tyler placed 4th in the south down division and 5th in the medium wool class. Alex Gustafson also won a class, placing 1st with her south down, in addition to also finishing 2nd and 5th in the medium wool class. Finally, Kaleigh Anderson closed out her day placing three sheep, with 3rd and 6th place ribbons in the medium wool class and a 5th place crossbred while Lainie Parker would show two 8th place crossbreds and Logan Parker took home a 9th place ribbon with his fine wool.

With stock show season fast approaching, many of these same students will also take part in the upcoming Cougar Classic in New Braunfels on December 6th and 7th, while making preparations for the upcoming Blanco FFA Chapter Show on December 19th and 20th.
