The Kendall County Area Democratic Women (KCADW) will host their 10th annual Eleanor Roosevelt Dinner and Fundraiser on Saturday evening, October 18th, at the Boerne Community Center.

Wine and cheese will be served at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:00p.m. The featured speaker will be Justice Catherine Stone of the Fourth Court of Appeals.

The Fourth Court of Appeals has intermediate appellate jurisdiction of both civil and criminal cases appealed from lower state courts in thirty-two counties located in South Texas and the Texas Hill Country.

Justice Stone has served on the Court for fourteen years. She was appointed to the Court by Governor Ann Richards in 1994, and since then, has won two contested elections and in 2006, won an uncontested bid for re-election.

Justice Stone is currently running for Chief Justice of the Fourth Court of Appeals to replace retiring Chief Justice Alma L. Lopez.

Justice Stone was born in the mill town of Biddeford, Maine, where she and her four sisters were raised by their mother in a single-parent home. Hard work, dedication, perseverance, and humility were the building blocks of her childhood.

She attended public schools in Biddeford, and after graduating from high school, attended Assumption College as a scholarship recipient. She graduated in 1976, Magna Cum Laude, with a degree in Foreign Affairs. Justice Stone attended law school at St. Mary’s University School of Law.

Before her 1994 appointment to the Fourth Court of Appeals, Justice Stone represented injured parties and their families in private practice, and in 1987, she became one of the first lawyers to earn the designation of Board Certified specialist in the area of Civil Appellate Law. She has written more than 1,000 legal opinions resolving the disputes and difficulties of the residents and business enterprises of the Fourth Court District.

Suggested contribution for the Eleanor Roosevelt Dinner is $30 per person. Reservations may be made by contacting Gwen King at 830-755-4434 or by sending your check to KCADW, P.O. Box 2132, Boerne TX 78006.
