A group of citizens has formed a society for the veterans. They are called Blanco County Volunteers for Veterans Memorial Society. The members are Kenneth and Carolyn Moore, Dennis Moore, Sherry Hawkins, Jan Morgan, Darlene Kiernan and Bruce Huguelet. They are planning their first annual Veteran’s Day Parade to be held in Blanco on Saturday, November 8th. This is to be an annual event to honor all veterans who have served in the past and those now serving. Following the parade will be an outside ceremony on the courthouse grounds. Eventually, the Society plans to work on raising funds for a memorial for the veterans. That will be further down the road. All participants are welcome to be in the parade. No donations are required and you don’t have to build a float, if you wish you can just put your vehicle in the parade. They have specified that the vehicle must display the American flag and if any music is to be played that it must be patriotic music. As one of the members stated, “We want this parade to be very dignified for the Veterans as they have all given a lot to our country”.

If you know of a veteran to honor please see the application to complete in the paper along with the entry form for parade participants. You may complete them and return to any one of the members of the group or you may return them to the central location of the Blanco National Bank and they will be given to Sherry Hawkins.
