FFA Quaid Haack - Reserve Champion Brahman

Several Blanco FFA members spent this past weekend competing in one of the state’s largest prospect steer shows in Hondo at the annual Medina County Fair. Overall, more than 230 steers competed in this year’s show, representing sixteen different breeds of cattle.

Senior Katie Baker and Junior Quaid Haack each brought home a reserve breed champion. Katie won the light weight Brangus class before being named the Reserve Champion Brangus, in addition to placing second in the Chianina, Limousin, and Maine-Anjou divisions. Quaid would also fair just as well, winning the light weight Brahman class before being selected as the Reserve Champion Brahman. Quaid also won the light weight Simmental class, while placing 2nd in the light weight Limousin and AOB classes.

Others placing and doing well this past weekend were as follows: Spencer Moore with a first place AOB and a sixth place Brahman; Shelby Moore with a second place Maine-Anjou, a third place Chianina, and a fourth place Santa Gertrudis; Logan Dodd with a second place middle weight American Breed Cross; and finally, Tyler Noah with a third place Santa Gertrudis, in addition to competing in the heifer show with a third place Limousin.

With school well underway, and the major livestock show season fast approaching, many more local FFA members will be competing in upcoming shows at San Marcos, Dripping Springs, and New Braunfels as they prepare for a busy show season.

Advisors for the Blanco FFA and Blanco Junior FFA are Felice and Jason Marek.
