The BYFL Varsity team traveled to Marble Falls to face the undefeated Mustangs on Saturday. Blanco kicked off deep and pinned the Mustangs down at their own twenty, and held them defensively to three & out. Jake Breeding got the Panther offense going with an eight yard run, but on the ensuing play the Panthers fumbled in the backfield. The Mustangs forced a punt, but an errant snap gave Marble Falls the ball at the Blanco thirty-five. The Mustangs capitalized by punching in the first score on a two yard run and converting the point after to make it 7 to 0. The Panthers responded by marching down to the Mustang thirty, but again fumbled in the backfield to kill the drive.
The second half started with a bang, as Colton Elrod returned the kick off fifty-five yards to the Mustang twenty-five. The Panthers drove to the fifteen, but again turned the ball over on downs. The Mustangs were thwarted on their next drive when Aikman Elrod intercepted a pass and returned it forty yards down to the Mustang thirty-five, but a penalty would back them up to their own thirty. Again, the Panthers fumbled in the backfield, and turned the ball over on downs. The Panther defense held the Mustangs and Blanco had one final drive attempt to tie the game, but a pass attempt from Aikman to Carson Kipp was intercepted by Marble Falls, and they ran the clock out, leaving the final score at 7 to 0.
Overall, the Panther offense was plagued with four fumbles on the day, while the defense played exceptional. Devlin Moore and Dru Ramirez continued to shine, shutting down the Mustangs outside running game. Andrew Burgess, McKay Adamson, and Jake Breeding had solid defensive performances in holding the Mustangs to their lowest offensive output of the season.
The Panthers will face the Dripping Springs Maroon team this Saturday in Dripping Springs.
