Participants Selected from Across the U.S. and Canada

New York, September, 2008-Guideposts magazine will conduct its 22nd Writer’s Workshop for aspiring writers the week of October 13-17 in New York City.

Participants in the five-day workshop were selected by Guideposts editors from written submissions and samples of work. Each selected writer in effect “won” their place in the workshop and will attend with all expenses paid by Guideposts. Sheryl Smith-Rodgers of Blanco, TX has been chosen to be one of this year’s attendees.

For each workshop class, Guideposts selects just 16 participants. The 2008 work-shoppers were selected from over 5000 entries received. Attendees in the 22nd workshop come from twelve states (AL, AR, IA, IL, IN, MN, NY, OK, PA, TN, TX, VA) and Canada.. The Guideposts Writer’s Workshops have been held every two years since the 1960’s. The next workshop will be held in the fall of 2010.

The focus of the Guideposts Writer’s Workshops is to develop skills in first person writing and story-telling. Guideposts editors look for attendees that have a strong potential as good storytellers, regardless of experience or prior publication.

Workshop staff and editors use a specially developed curriculum of classes and exercises to train, expand, and advance each writer’s innate storytelling talent.

Notable past attendees include best-selling author Sue Monk Kidd, whose books include The Secret Life of Bees, The Mermaid Chair, and Firstlight, a Guideposts Books collection of her early writings.

Other past attendees in Guideposts Writer’s Workshops have gone on to pursue writing fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children’s books, theatrical plays, essays, screenplays, short stories, and in virtually every form of literary endeavor.
