1858 was a very historic year. A year when several farmers, ranchers, and land developers decided to petition the Texas Legislature for the formation of Blanco County by drawing land from Hays, Comal, Kerr, and Gillespie Counties. The City of Blanco was also named at that time.

Riding in the Blanco County Fair Parade in an original trail buggy, Saturday, August 16th, to represent those Founding Fathers were Dennis Moore, Mark Mabrito, Bill Noonan, and Rob Jones. These men will present their final re-enactment of the formation of Blanco County on September 27, 2008 at Yett Park Pavilion at 11:00a.m. Don’t miss the Big Birthday Bash and other exciting events!

Leading the parade of floats for the Blanco County Historical Society was a tractor drawn float filled with a bevy of beauties and Sesquicentennial President George Byars. Thank you ladies; Nell Krueger, Bernice West, Bernice Freer, and Pat Vallone for helping the Society win a Red Ribbon.

Bringing up the tail-end was a gorgeous black carriage for two, drawn by a Belgian horse and handled by Kenneth Moore. Sherry Jenkins and I enjoyed our ride.

None of the for special events of this nature ever get done without many “helping hands.” You know who you are. Thanks a million times over.
