Nell Krueger and her house guest from Dallas, John Pruitt, hosted friends Chris Bliss and wife Daisy, from Phoenix, at Mi Tierra in San Antonio recently. They were in Texas working on details for a monument to the Bill of Rights, the first Ten Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
In June, 2007, Governor Perry signed a bill enabling construction of the monument on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol. Designs for the monument are being finalized and should be complete sometime in September. Mr. Bliss will visit in Blanco when he comes to Texas in the fall.
Bliss told Krueger and Pruitt his research indicated there is no monument to the Bill of Rights anywhere outside of Washington, DC.
Given that they are the most basic of human rights under our constitution, he decided to wage a campaign to construct monuments in every state capitol in the nation. Bliss started in Arizona, his home state, where the Arizona governor has also signed enabling legislation.
