Due to scheduling conflicts, Juneteenth was held a little later than usual, but my goodness – what a great time was had by all! All who attended were welcomed with open arms and treated as if they were family, reminiscent of a family reunion.
Activities were planned throughout the day, music, games, food, speakers, just to name a few. The highlight for many was Mrs. Isadore Yett’s reminiscences – she has been there, done that for 93 years and has seen lots of changes over that time period. What is even better, she is still going pretty strong!
There was a re-enactment of the signing of the charter by founder and freed slave Peyton Roberts, as well as tours of the old Peyton Colony school house and Mt. Horeb church.
There was dinner on the grounds, and what dinner it was! There were even desserts made by a New York chef – and he was there as well. There was lots of music from local muscians who played throughout the day.
“Straight from the horse's mouth: Thank You to everyone who helped make this year's Juneteenth what it was!”, exclaimed Lawrence Coffee.
Although a hot day, young and old alike had a wonderful day of fun, food, and fellowship.
