On Friday, June 27th, two local arrowhead enthusiasts, Bill Davis and William Belleck, came to the library during the Summer Reading Program.
Davis and Belleck were met with an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 70 kids and their parents. They brought many examples of arrowheads and drilling tools from the area, and passed around samples for the children to touch and even to smell! William skillfully demonstrated the art of arrowhead knapping and even made several points for interested kids to take home. Bill talked to the crowd about the history of toolmaking in Texas and held a raffle for the children giving away 15 arrowheads!
The Blanco Library continues to set attendance records for the 4th straight week of The Summer Reading Program. The children are beginning to bring in their completed summer reading logs which qualifies them for a free circus ticket to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in August.
The deadline for completing the summer reading requirement is July 18. To finish out the summer reading program, mark your calendars for a visit to the library by local writer and naturalist, Sheryl Smith Rogers, and her spiders on July 11th at 10 am. There will be a special closing ceremony/concert on July 18 in the pecan bottom next to the nature trail (Bindseil Park) at 6pm.
Join us as we congratulate our young readers, thank our special guests, our volunteers, and our generous sponsors. Come and enjoy old timey music by local performers, Hold 'er Newt. The entire community is welcome! Contact Christine Bailey for more information 833-4280.
