Five delegates and alternates from Blanco County attended the State Republican Convention in Houston, June 12-14, 2008. Blanco County Republican Chair, Ann “Aggie” Hall, and four other delegates, Brenda Adair, David Hall, Ed Boyd, and Judy Yentzen attended multiple sessions during the three days electing delegates to the Republican National Convention, voting on the state platform, and electing officers for the Texas Republican Party. Alternate delegates also attending were Connie Granberg, Gene Yentzen, and MaryAnn Weaver. Working as pages during the convention were Grant Weaver and Abby Weaver.

Notable speakers at the convention included Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and many Texas politicians. Newt Gingrich encouraged all voters of all parties to sign his petition at www.americansolutions.com; bumper stickers with the site slogan, Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less, were available.

Governor Huckabee, in his always positive manner, urged all Americans to “Keep your fork!” Just as a worker at a potluck social reminds everyone to keep your fork because the dessert is still coming, Huckabee believes that the best years for the United States are yet to come.

Whether one is a Republican, Democrat, or Independent, attending a state party convention and participating in the political process is the best kind of civics lesson, and every night there are many death by chocolate (or some other delicacy) political gatherings. Volunteer in four year!
