The Blanco Library is proud to present Austin Children’s Author, Davis Ford to the Summer Reading Program on Friday June 13 at 10 am. Davis will read his children’s book, Leroy the Cowboy: Children and Horses to Blanco’s children and will have copies of his book to sign for purchase. He will also bring a video of cowboy life to share with everyone.

The book is about how Leroy the Cowboy, famous for his cowboying all over the American Southwest, is ready to teach his son, Hurley, soon to be nine, how to ride a horse and be a cowboy. Hurley invites four of his friends to share these “Leroy the Cowboy” lessons. Kate, Lucy, Greg and Carlos gather at Leroy’s ranch during the summer after third grade ends and learn about companionship with horses, as well as with themselves and each other. Although the stories in this book are fictionalized, all the characters, horses and experiences are based on reality. The factual information about horses has been based on the authors’ research and reviewed by experienced cowboys and horsemen.

Davis L. Ford’s accomplishments include: Adjunct Professor, Environmental Engineer, Graduate of both Texas A&M University and the University of Texas-Austin. He earned: BS, Civil Engineering; MS, Environmental Engineering; Ph.D., Environmental Engineering.

You can register your child, ages 2-12, for the Summer Reading Program anytime at The Blanco Library. Children have until July 18 to read 5 books to receive a FREE Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus ticket. The circus will be in Austin August 20-24. Little ones who cannot read can be read to and will still earn a free ticket. Babies under the age of 2 will be admitted for free. Just keep track of books read by picking up a reading log. See you at the Library!
