The Peyton Colony Heritage Foundation is hosting the Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 21. Lawrence Coffee, President of the Foundation, invites residents of Blanco County to join in this annual African American celebration of freedom.
“We are so honored to be a part of Blanco County’s 150th Sesquicentennial festivities,” Coffee stated, “ and want to invite you to come out and learn about the history of Peyton Colony and the contributions it made to this wonderful county.”
This daylong celebration will kick off at 10:00 am with the opening ceremonies, followed by a re-enactment of the signing of the charter by freed slave and founder of the community, Peyton Roberts at 11:00 am.
Tours of the old Peyton Colony Schoolhouse and Mt. Horeb Baptist Church will begin around noon, followed by lunch from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Music, games, a talent show and an afternoon of fun will take place until around 7:00 pm.
