Be in Johnson City for the celebration of the Blanco County Sesquicentennial on the square, Saturday, June 7, at 10:00a.m.

We will begin this very special event with the arrival of our horseback circuit-riding preacher from the Cowboy Church of Johnson City, who will share the good word with us in his invocation. The County Judge will then read the Blanco County proclamation commemorating this milestone in Blanco County history. Then a Johnson City, City Representative will offer the City’s proclamation and the hosting of the Blanco County’s North End Sesquicentennial birthday celebration.

We have a full day of activities and events for the whole family. We will share with you and our visitors some of the best music produced by local talented friends and neighbors. Music will include guitars, mandolins, banjos, fiddles, and more. This entertainment will be with us all day and they might even take a few requests; we will just have to ask.

There will be demonstrations of a working chuckwagon, brought to you by the L.B.J. National Park Service. There will also be horseshoeing displays by a local farrier and you will be entertained by watching split rail fence building by local individuals. Local clubs and organizations will have booths and exhibits telling of their history, sharing awareness of their purpose and undertaking.

Good food, drinks, and baked goods will be offered by many non-profit organizations. Be sure to help them raise funds for their cause, as these people work hard all year supporting Blanco County. Our Johnson City Cub and Girl Scouts along with local high school youth will host games, face painting, dunking booth, and more.

The Civil War had a devastating impact on the nation, as well as here in Blanco County. We are fortunate to have with us in Johnson City the Terry Texas Rangers in authentic attire as they patrol the County Square. Be sure to visit with them and let them share with you their knowledge of this time in Blanco County history. You will not be disappointed.

Be sure not to miss a very special guest on the front porch of the Johnson City Bank and hear from a local hill country politician as he campaigns for your vote and looks for your support. A must see exhibit of many historical documents and campaign memorabilia from the L.B.J. Library in Austin and the Johnson City Bank will be displayed inside the bank lobby.

This will be a great day to be in Johnson City with so many positive things taking place. Not only will we be celebrating the Sesquicentennial on the square, but just a short distance up Spur 356 at the entrance to the Johnson City High School, we will have the groundbreaking ceremony of the future home of the Johnson City Library at 11:00a.m.Walk up the hill to the high school for the Johnson City school reunion for all graduates through the Class of 1979. This will be a great place to catch up with old friends. Registration begins at 1:00p.m. and dinner will be at 5:30p.m.
