The Tejas Art Club sponsored an art contest for Blanco High School students. Twenty-two students created wonderful pieces of art to enter the contest. The judging was held at the regular meeting of the Tejas Art Club, Thursday April 17. Although it was hard to choose, first place went to Melinda Hansen for her pencil drawing of two alpacas. Sarah Isenberg was awarded second place for her oil painting of a very contented longhorn. Hillary Tidwell’s acrylic rendition of a rodeo clown took third place. Every entrant received a gift certificate for art supplies at the Uptown Art Center. The quality and talent of the work should make Blanco proud. The Club wants to thank all the participants and their teacher Ms. Kuebel. They want to thank Jan Redmond and the Blanco Library for all the support they give Tejas Art Club and the arts. Also, thanks to Rebecca Doll at the Uptown Art Center. Hopefully this will be an annual event with even more participation next year.

The Tejas Art Club meets the third Thursday of the month at the Blanco Library, with the next meeting being June 19. The group is a community organization that is open to all. You don’t have to be an artist, but maybe you’ve secretly wanted to be one, or just appreciate the arts. President Olga Ibarra welcomes new members, call her at 833-1966 for more information about the club.
