Everyone is invited to a big barbecue on the banks of the Pedernales River, reminiscent of one held by Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson at their Stonewall ranch in 1967. The Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park and the Friends of LBJNHP are joining forces to re-create the presidential barbecue held to honor members of the Organization of American States. The May 17 event is part of the year long celebration of the centennial of President Johnson's birth at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park.

The barbecue begins at 4 p.m. at the LBJ Ranch with a social hour and welcome by "President Johnson," portrayed by Michael Stuart, in a 1967 LBJ Lincoln Convertible. Guests are invited to view other 1960's exhibits.

The highlight of the evening will be a 5:30 performance of the Fort Griffin Fandangle, a celebration of the founding of Fort Griffin and the settling of Albany, the Texas frontier west of Fort Worth. With singing, dancing and pageantry, it recreates the look and feel of life in the frontier days of the Old West. The Fandangle also performed at the original 1967 event.

An LBJ-style barbecue dinner will be served after the Fandangle. The Bret Graham band will play old country western favorites for listening and dancing in the Live Oak Grove.

Tickets are $100 per person. The proceeds from this Friends of LBJNHP fundraiser will provide future educational activities at the park.
