Sweeney Todd

Noel–I wasn’t a huge fan of Tim Burton until his other movie Corpse Bride, which is one of my favorites. Sweeney Todd is one of those movies that you know you probably wouldn’t like but once you watch it for some strange reason you do like it. The first killing starts off as “necessary” but then all of the other killings are done out of pure insanity and Sweeney and his friend; Mrs. Lovett, decide to make good use out of the dead bodies and use them as the main ingredient for her meat pies. This is a very gruesome, disturbing, bloody movie that for some reason I’m recommending because even though there is a lot of blood and insanity, I still enjoyed it. 3 paws.

Keith–Throat slashing, singing, and meat pies... this combination dominates the screen in the revenge tale of Sweeney Todd, and not since Moulin Rouge, have I enjoyed a musical this much. Visually this movie looks like “the Corpse Bride” come to life with its dark gray vision of London, and Tim Burton definitely pulls it off. This movie is funny, revengeful, bloody, and peculiar. Turning on your subtitles is a good suggestion for this movie if you have a hard time understanding the words of the songs; that way you’ll not miss some of the brilliancy of the revenge-driven story line about this barber gone mad! 3 paws.
