8th Annual Water Festival
April 14, 1978
Scouters, leaders. Families and friends from all over the state are invited to participate in the 8th Annual Blanco Scout Water Festival to be held at the Blanco State Park, Blanco, Texas, May 5, 6, and 7th, 1978.
The annual event is sponsored by the Blanco Scout Water Festival Association, assisted by the Blanco Boy Scout.
Ellen White honored
April 13, 1988
The Texas Agriculture Extension Services recognizes Ellen White of White Ranch in Blanco for participation in the 8 day Total Ranch Management program, held March 22-26 and 28-30 at the Texas A&M Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Uvalde.
The TRM training program helps rancher identified important ranch goals and develop realistic plans to accomplish these goals. Presenting her plaque is Ed Koliba, District Extension Director-Agriculture.

Mr. and Mrs. John L. Dechert are the parents of a son, Michael William, born March 23 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. He weighed 7 pounds.
Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. F.B. Wagenfehr Jr. Paternal grandmother is Mrs. Wesley Dechert. Great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Plagge, Mr. and Mrs. F.B. Wagenfehr Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Riba.
Great great grandmother is Mrs. Florence Ogle of San Antonio.
Upshaw not Hostetler all district

The Blanco girls all-district team was reported to the newspaper incorrectly.
It should have been Laura Upshaw who made all-district, instead of Laura Hostetler.
There were no Honorable Mention teams selected this year.
Bishop visits in Blanco

The Rt. Rev. Earl McArthur, the new Suffragan Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas, was here last Wednesday.
He met with Bishop’s Warden Lucil Olson, Treasurer Bennett P. Blake and chairpersons of several of the committees of the church. The meeting was held at St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church, located at 218 Pittsburg Street. The past, the present, and the future were discussed, the goals of the future being the primary topic.
St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church’s services and Sunday school are at 11 o’clock and they have Bible study each Wednesday night at 7 o’clock at the church.
Gandalf’s Goldwerkes

Silver bullets are the specialty of Gandalf’s Goldwerkes, a new business opening on April 18 in the Sears building. Owner of the business is a young energetic man by the name of Robert Cox II.
Gandalf is not anywhere close to Robert’s name but the name of the white wizard in a work of literature by J.R. Toilken.
The bright yellow posters seen all over Blanco bear the emblem of the language of Toilken’s elf creatures, and were adopted by Cox as his logo. He designed a silver ring with the emblems on it and wears it constantly.
Band Boosters to meet
April 14, 1978
There will be a meeting of the Blanco Panther Band Boosters on Tuesday, April18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Band Hall. This will be a very important meeting and each parent who has a student in the band should attend.
It will be discussed the need for additional band instruments, where our money is spent and needed, and electing new officers for the coming year. Following the meeting there will be a concert with various students playing.
Let’s all come out and attend this important meeting and hear our fine band.
Workshop to discuss landfill alternatives
April 13, 1988
The City of Blanco will host a public workshop to explore an economical alternative to the landfill.
This meeting is a joint workshop of both Blanco and Johnson City councils and the Blanco County Commissioners.
The workshop will be led by Bill Carterr of Eco-Action in Austin. He will discuss how to set up how to set up a recycling program and the economic advantages of this venture.
All citizens are encouraged to attend. Questions will be answered following the presentation.
The workshop will be held at City Hall Thursday, April 14th at 5:30 p.m.
