Following a busy week preparing and exhibiting livestock at the Blanco County Youth Show, several local exhibitors traveled to Kerrville to take part in the annual Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show. The Hill District show has proven yearly to be the largest district show in the state and one of the larger more competitive livestock shows in the area. Exhibitors from 22 counties are eligible to compete with hopes of making the sale.

This year, senior FFA member Kaleigh Anderson exhibited the Reserve Champion American Breed Steer after having won 1st place in the middle weight division. Kaleigh would also take home a 3rd place ribbon in the heavy weight American class and an 8th place ribbon with her European steer.

Robert Jones was the next local to qualify for the district sale, taking home the 1st place ribbon in the light weight Medium Wool division of the lamb show in addition to placing 7th in the Meat Goat show. Finally, Kylie Leachman and Grady Childress would each do well in the Junior Breeding Heifer show with Kylie exhibiting the Reserve Champion Red Angus Heifer, along with placing 5th in the light weight European steer class, and Grady winning Reserve Champion honors with his Santa Gertrudis heifer.

Other high placing exhibitors from Blanco included: Quaid Haack - 2nd and 3rd place American and European steers, Trevor Hardin - 7th place Crossbred barrow, and Brenna Wallace - 8th place Duroc barrow. Also competing in the barrow show and making the final pull but just missing out on the top ten was Tyler Hardin.

These students, as well as many others, will continue preparations for upcoming shows in Ft. Worth and San Antonio during the month of February.
