Doris Jean (Quinn) Hughes went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2010 in Gulfport, Florida, at the age of 72 after a brief battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Estelle Quinn, and her beloved husband, Ed E. Hughes, who died in July 2007. Doris is survived by her sister, Patricia Jay; four daughters, Robin Neff, Bambi McWhorter, Dawn Niekarz, and Michelle Hughes; two sons, Eddie E. Hughes, Jr. and Jeffrey Hughes; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and three sister-in-laws; numerous nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.

Although Doris grew up and raised her children in San Antonio, she and Ed moved to the Blanco, Texas area about 30 years ago where they enjoyed the quiet country living and the special friendships you find in a small town. Doris worked for the Blanco Police Department until she retired in the summer of 2009 to travel and visit her children. Although she will be greatly missed, we know that she is resting, whole and healthy, in the arms of Jesus and we will see her again when we go Home.

A viewing will be held at Crofts Funeral Home in Blanco, Texas on Wednesday, January 13, from 5:00-7:00pm followed by a Rosary. Funeral Services will be at 11:00am on Thursday, January 14, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Spring Branch, Texas. Doris will be laid to rest beside her husband at Blanco Cemetery, Blanco, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice House Woodside in Pinellas Park, Florida, or a charity of your choice.
