The 72nd Blanco County 4-H and FFA Youth Show begins Thursday, January 14 at the Blanco County Show Barn in Johnson City. This year there are almost 600 entries. These leaders of tomorrow put in many hours, and oftentimes, a lot of their hard-earned money, working towards a successful project and show. They invite you to attend the two-day show, and show your support at the sale on Saturday, January 16.

Don Harris will begin judging the 35 Shop Projects entered in this year’s show at 8:00am. Rodney Green is Shop Project Superintendent. The grand champion and reserve grand champion Shop Projects will be sold through the sale on Saturday. The remainder of the projects will be for sale by private treaty with the exhibitors.

Judging of poultry projects begins at 1:00pm. Rabbits, steers and lambs will follow with no set time. Superintendents are Poultry – Ed Crawford, Rabbits – Kip Thompson, Steers –Larry Scott, and Lambs – Melvin Moreland. Thursday’s judges are Poultry – Ray Pieniazek, Rabbits – Ted DeLoyola, Steers – Bryan Davis, and Lambs – Chris Wiemers.

Friday’s judging of goats starts at 8:00am, followed by hogs. Superintendents are Goats – Randy Sultemeier, and Hogs – Jack Harvey. Friday’s judges are Goats- Adam Lira, and Hogs – Kelton Mason.

The Little Britches Goat Show will take place on Friday immediately following the regular Junior Goat Show.

Gretchen Sanders, Blanco County CEA, along with local 4-H leaders will supervise Exhibit Hall projects Thursday and Friday. The six categories, Foods, Home Canned Products, Sewing, Hobbies, Fine Art, and Educational Exhibits will be divided into Junior and Senior classes. The Junior and Senior Sweepstakes winner will be included in the Sale on Saturday. Exhibit Hall projects will be sold through Silent Auction 9:00 am Thursday through noon Saturday.

A Salsa contest sponsored by the Scholarship Committee will also take place Saturday morning. The winner will be announced immediately after the sale ends and the winning jar auctioned to raise money for the scholarship fund.
