Writer, college professor and native Texan Dr. Oscar De Los Santos will read from a forthcoming short story collection at the Bulverde/Spring Branch Library at 10:30 Monday morning, December 21.

De Los Santos is originally from Corpus Christi. A graduate of the city’s Texas A&M branch campus (undergrad) and Ohio State (Masters and Ph.D.), he is chair of the Writing Department at Western Connecticut State University, where he has taught since 1993.

De Los Santos’s books include Hardboiled Egg (short stories), Infinite Wonderlands (co-written with his Texas A&M writing mentor, Professor David G. Mead) and Spirits of Texas and New England (“true life” folklore stories focusing on the paranormal).

“My interests have always been diverse,” says De Los Santos, who has also edited a book of film criticism called Reel Rebels. “I’m fortunate that my teaching job has allowed me to pursue my writing passions and put food on the table. Bonita, my Jack Russell doggie, appreciates the latter.”

The writer will read from a collection due out next fall. “Many of my stories are set in South Texas, but I’ll share a tale that’s set in Connecticut, where I live now. I think it’s both creepy and funny. The story is from Seasons Light and Dark, a short story collection that I wrote with Kelly L. Goodridge.”

Seasons isn’t the only book on De Los Santos’s radar. “I have three books in the works, actually. An edited collection of moon short stories will be out next May, before Seasons. One of the moon stories is written by Bulverde / Spring Branch Library’s own Sam Salas. It’s a wild piece!”
