The Blanco chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America “Made Their Mark” on the State Conference held in Galveston, Texas on April 3-5, 2008. The chapter members were among 3,000 delegates attending the three-day conference. The youth developed theme, “Save the Day with FCCLA” was carried out through tracks featuring a series of specialized workshops and general sessions in which members discovered ways to become actively involved in issues facing today’s youth.

STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members participate at the regional meeting. These events allow members to showcase their life skills in different areas of competition. Blanco High School had five STAR Event teams competing at the event. Following is a list of teams who competed at the meeting and their placement:

Fourth Place: Applied Technology Jr. Division: Alicia Immel and Chelsea San Miguel

Sixth Place: Chapter Showcase Sr. Division: Bonnie Strodtbeck and Kalyn Massey

Honorable Mention: Focus on Children Sr. Division: Rachel Calzoncit and Celenia Villarreal.

National Programs Sr. Division: Jennifer Plaza.

Chapter Service Sr. Division: Magdalena Avila, Morgan Johnson and Veronica Navarro

FCCLA is a dynamic youth organization that has the family as the central focus. Student leaders of Texas FCCLA are ready to “Save the Day with FCCLA” and progress with programs related to parenting, child development, management (personal and financial), interior design, entrepreneurship, food service, nutrition, institutional maintenance, hospitality, and career awareness.
