On Sunday, November 22, Blanco Verde will have its monthly pot luck hosted by Heron’s Nest Herb Farm, 1673 River Bend Drive, at 5:00pm. The whole community is invited.

Blanco Verde is excited to partner with Heron’s Nest as they celebrate their annual Echinacea Harvest. The harvest is going on Saturday and Sunday (November 21-22) from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Come out and harvest the root, or attend classes offered both days at 10:00am, 12:00 noon, or 2:00pm to learn the uses of the herb, and make your own Echinacea tincture. Echinacea is a native plant, often called coneflower, and is traditionally used to build the immune system. There will be an herbalist on hand to talk about its many other uses. Fire Cider, an herbal winter tonic, can also be made.

Of course, Heron’s Nest will have their Lavender products available. Heron’s Nest is owned and operated by Fred and Melanie Van Aken. Directions and more information about them, their farm, and the harvest can be found on their website at www.heronsnestherbfarm.com.

Arrive at 3:30 Sunday and you can take part in making fire cider and Echinacea tincture, and be on time for the pot luck. There is a reasonable charge for the classes and harvesting, but you will go home with your herbs and knowledge of how to use them.

Blanco Verde is happy that we have made such wonderful connections in such a short time. We have partnered with Keep Blanco Beautiful for Texas Recycle Day, will present an Eco Kids Club monthly at the Blanco Library, and will work with the Old Blanco County Courthouse to keep the visitor center in the courthouse open longer hours, and to start having community pot lucks there.
