Ever wonder what Great Grandma’s 100 year-old pitcher is worth? How about some old books, jewelry, collectibles, or art work you think might be valuable? If so, bring what you are curious about to the Antique Appraisal Event Saturday, November 14, at the Old Blanco County Court House beginning at 12:15pm.

This is the second annual appraisal event sponsored by Friends of the Blanco Library.

Certified Antique Appraiser Carolyn Rankin and Certified Gemologist Ralph Morgan and associates of San Antonio will examine and research your jewelry, antiques, or collectibles and give you an on-the-spot estimate of value. The charge for appraising is $10 for one item or $25 for three items.

Morgan, who specializes in Edwardian and Victorian period jewelry, will have his portable gem lab with him to use in evaluations. He is especially expert in appraising rubies and sapphires.

Pieces will be accepted beginning at 12:15. The appraisal session will begin at approximately 1 p.m. Participants will be given a number at registration, and the appraisers will move to the various items in numerical order. The audience has the opportunity to see the various items being appraised and hear the estimates.

Large furniture items cannot be accepted for appraisal due to limited space and accessibility.

“This event was such a huge success last year that we are anticipating good participation again,” Jeffrey Holmes, president of Friends of the Library, predicted. “All of the proceeds will go to purchasing new books and other needs of our community library.”
