Mary Frances Jones, 81, formerly of LaPorte, TX, passed away early Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Autumn Grove Cottage, an Alzheimers care facility in Spring, TX. Born in Oakdale, LA, on October 13, 1928, she was the only daughter of four children, born to the late Frank and Mabel (Starken) Hawkins. After graduating from Oakdale High School, Mary married James Henderson Jones. Jim’s work would take their family throughout South Texas, Florida and eventually to Baton Rouge, LA, where he founded J.H. Jones Co., an electric motor company, in 1959. The family and business moved to Channelview, TX, in the early 1960s. In 1978, Mary and Jim moved to Blanco, TX, but would later return to Houston for health reasons. After Jim’s death in 1998, Mary moved to LaPorte, where she was a past member of Life Community Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing the piano, collecting recipes and cooking for her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, loyal sister and treasured friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Preceded in death by her husband, James Henderson Jones, and her brother, Frank Hawkins; she is survived by her sons, Trimm Jones, of Crosby, TX and Harry Jones and wife, Kaye, of Iota, LA; daughters, Rosemary Foster, of Dallas, TX, Carol Coffer and husband, John, of Santo, TX; Nancy Seroka and husband, Erwin, of Pearland, TX and Lisa Ritz and husband, Jeff, of Spring, TX; brothers Billy Hawkins and Harry Hawkins; thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm, Monday, November 9, 2009, at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home, 6123 Garth Road-Baytown. A graveside service will be held 1:30pm, Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Blanco Cemetery in Blanco, TX, with Rev. W.R. Hicks officiating. Honoring the family as pallbearers were Mark Jones, John Westley Coffer, Brad BisCamp, Michael Ritz, Jeff Ritz and Erwin Seroka.
