Ron Houston was born in Karnes County, Texas, February 18, 1939, and passed away October 7, 2009.  He graduated from Kenedy High School in 1957, during which time he began working at the local radio station.  He went on to work at several radio stations in South Texas and Houston, arriving in San Antonio to work at KTSA.  He later worked at KEXL, KBUC, KFAN, KR10, and KENS Radio.  He was a top-notch radio personality with a great voice.  During this time, Ron also recorded voice-over commercials and narration for numerous clients, including San Antonio Spurs, KENS TV, Super S Foods, KLRN, Bluebonnet Motors, and numerous others.

He moved to Blanco with his wife Sheryl, in 1981.  They had a wonderful loving life together.  He was a volunteer fireman with the Blanco Volunteer Fire Department for over 10 years and a member of the Blanco E.M.S. for more than 10 years.  He was always ready to help the community; to this end, he was an organ donor.  Ron was also elected to Blanco City Council in 2000 and served as Mayor Pro-Tem until the present date.  He also was President of the Blanco Humane Society, always spending his own money to buy food and spay/neuter animals that needed his help.

Ron will be greatly missed and a void has been left in all who knew him.  He had a great personality and was a great friend to all people and animals.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Sheryl Houston, three adult children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 16, 2009, at 2:00pm at the Blanco United Methodist Church in Blanco, Texas.
