Wildseed Farms will officially kick off its annual “Wildflower Celebration” this weekend to celebrate the arrival of spring wildflowers. The Celebration begins April 5th and continues through April 20th. As the red poppies begin to blossom in the fields adjacent to Highway 290 east of Fredericksburg, the farm staff is busy preparing for visitors with several special events this year.

New and very popular with guests is the addition of live music on Saturday afternoons from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wildseed Farms now features a stage for bands such as “The Almost Patsy Cline Band” complete with a dance floor for guests to kick up their heels. Beer and wine are available in the Wildseed Farms BrewBonnet, and can be enjoyed while listening to great music, seated amid wildflower fields in bloom. “The Almost Patsy Cline Band” is scheduled to perform April 5th, April 19th, and April 26th, while local fiddler Bart Trotter will appear with the Side Guys and special guest Cindy Cashdollar on April 12th.

The Butterfly Haus, a 3,000 square foot live butterfly exhibit, officially opened for the season on March 21st. Hundreds of native Texas butterflies live within the exhibit and delight visitors as they feast on colorful flowers and fly among the guests. The butterfly “Learning Center” has been expanded and offers guests the ability to see first-hand the life cycle of the butterfly, from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to newly emerged butterfly.

The “Soupbone Cattle Company” chuckwagon gang is back for Wildflower Celebration and will be baking mouth-watering biscuits in dutch ovens for guests to sample with Wildseed Farms’ jellies and jams.

An awesome selection of new plants, ready for spring planting, is available in the Wildseed Farms nursery, along with the gifts, specialty foods, pottery and wildflower seed for sale at the Market Center. There is no charge to park, wander and shop, listen to the music or sample the biscuits! A nominal fee of $5.00 per person is charged for admittance to the trial plot area known as “The Meadows” which includes the Butterfly Haus. Wildseed Farms opens at 9:30 a.m. daily and closes at 6:00 p.m. More information, including a bloom update, can be found at www.wildseedfarms.com.
