On Sunday, March 30, 2008, over 16,000 runners from around the world ran the 31st Capital 10,000 Race, a 6.2 mile race in downtown Austin.
Blanco and Johnson City were represented well in the race. Dr. Doug Pautz finished first in his men’s age group in an amazing time of 39 minutes and 32 seconds. Below are the other timed runners from Blanco and Johnson City and their stats. There were a total of 6580 timed runners who wear a digital “chip” which automatically records their race time. The other 10,000 runners in the race run, or walk, for the fun of it and do not compete.
David Hall has run all 31 of the Capital 10K Races, which began in 1977. For several years he ran, with a partner, as the back half of a 15 foot armadillo made from a bamboo structure covered with cloth. The armadillo head was 3 feet long and was made from foam and sported a sweatband and sunglasses. The Cap 10K is the largest 10 K race in Texas and the 5th largest in the United States.
You can have another chance to run a 3.1 mile race (5K) in Blanco on April 12, 2008, as part of Project Graduation. The race begins at the Old Blanco County Courthouse at 9:00 AM and is a flat fast course through the State Park along the river. You can register online at http://www.blancograds.com/funrun/.
