An excavator works at tearing down the two wood-frame buildings at the end of the block, next to 3rd Street.

You may have noticed the activity along the exteriors of the west side of Main Street on the square in Blanco. Over the last three years we have been planning exterior improvements and have recently received approval from Texas Department of Transportation and Texas Historical Commission on the architectural drawings for the handicap-accessible sidewalk, safety railing, and entrances. Uptown Blanco is extremely excited about the approval and looking forward to this Main Street phase being completed before the Lavender Festival in June.

The demolition crew has already brought down the two wood frame buildings on the south end of the block that were in disrepair and unsafe. These have been removed to make way for future stone and brick buildings that will complement the entire block. Soon the old, uneven sidewalk and canopies will also be removed. The new construction will begin soon after.

Please use the East side of Main Street, or walk around the block, while the west side of Main Street is under construction. Please take care when driving in this area, remembering that the workers have family and friends too.
