Hill Country students interested in attending college close to home are invited to an information session about local college programs on April 1 at 6:00 p.m. at Tivy High School, 3250 Loop 534, Kerrville, JROTC room #D115. Everyone interested in college is invited.

The information session is sponsored by Hill Country University Center (HCUC) in Fredericksburg. A variety of undergraduate and graduate programs are available from Austin Community College, Alamo Community College District, Texas Tech University at Fredericksburg, Angelo State University, Schreiner University, and Concordia University.

All the colleges are members of HCUC except Alamo Community College District.

At HCUC, the community colleges provide the core curriculum, or basics, and the universities provide the upper division courses to complete a degree as well as graduate programs.

A new undergraduate program called Hill Country Project TEACH will be highlighted in the information session. A joint project of Austin Community College and Texas Tech University, the program allows a student to complete a degree and earn a generalist certification to teach Early Childhood through 6th grade (EC-6) as well as English as a Second Language (ESL).

HC Project TEACH is designed for recent high school graduates as well as the working adult. School paraprofessionals can earn this degree while they work and may qualify for free tuition and fees through the State Education Aide Exemption.
