CASA for the Highland Lakes Area celebrated their 15 year anniversary on March 12, 2008. All active & inactive volunteers, past & present board members, and previous CASA staff are invited to visit CASA in Kingsland on Friday, April 18th, between 4-6pm, for a Volunteer Reunion & Anniversary Celebration.

In 1993, CASA of Burnet County was formed. One county, one case, and one volunteer whose voice made a positive difference in lives of two small children who had been removed from their home due to neglect and non-supervision. Penny McCullough was the first CASA volunteer; and, she was then hired and has served as Executive Director since 1993.

Efficiency, effectiveness, and the programs worthiness were quickly noted. The need for CASA was recognized and supported throughout the Hill Country. Hundreds of children were in need. CASA volunteers filled the void in children’s lives and in the judicial process; saving taxpayers thousands, improving placement rates, and decreasing the time children’s lives were in limbo.

Today, CASA of the Highland Lakes Area, Inc. proudly serves five counties: Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano, and San Saba. Penny McCullough continues to serve as Executive Director. CASA staff has grown to five Case Supervisors, a Development Director, an Administrative Specialist, and a Volunteer Recruiter/Trainer. Several hundred trained volunteers have represented and aided over 1300 children that had to be removed from their home by the State due to abuse and neglect. CASA volunteers continue to seek the best interest of such children and advocate for safe, secure placements.
