On July 14, the Blanco County Commissioners Court appointed Kelly Carper Polden of Round Mountain to the Blanco County Child Welfare and Family Advocacy Board.

The Court accepted the low bid of $26,000 submitted by BES Demolition of San Marcos for the demolition and removal of the buildings and slabs once used by the Sheriff’s Department in Johnson City. Commissioner Granberg urged acceptance of the bid offered by Dirt Works of Blanco. The Dirt Works bid of $29,803 included re-erecting the metal buildings on the campus of LBJ High School. An asbestos abatement was completed at the old Sheriff’s sub-station. The work, which had been estimated to cost $12,000, was completed for $5,700.

There will be a special meeting of the Commissioners Court to be held on Monday, July 20, at 9:00am in order to meet with the architect who is charged with drawing up plans for new County Annex facilities. The county jail project is also being considered.

County Judge Bill Guthrie’s proposal was approved to keep next year’s county license plate fees the same as this year. The county fees are set at a total of $11.50.

Janitorial and lawn service bids for the County Court House were awarded to H&H Land Services of Johnson City. County employee uniforms and upkeep went to G&K Services of Buda. Paving oil and aggregate bids for road maintenance will be re-advertized.

And last but certainly not least, the burn ban will continue in the county through August 11, on which date the Commissioners Court will meet again in regular session.
