On Saturday, April 5, at 8:30 in the morning a group of dedicated citizens will meet at the Old Blanco Courthouse to clean the banks and riverbed of refuse. There is considerable trash along our River Bank and in the River which needs to be removed.
Last year, thanks to the Boy Scouts, the High School Ag students and a few adult volunteers, over 600 lbs of litter were collected along the River from Wayne Smith Dam to the end of the Park property.
Unfortunately, we may be able to top that number this year. A particularly bad spot is the bank below our water treatment facility.
The Boy Scouts and Ag students have again volunteered to help. The Scouts will do the River stretch from Kendelia Road to the Loop 163 bridge.
The Ag Students will work on the area between Kendelia Road and Wayne Smith Dam. Blanco State Park is loaning its canoes for the Ag Students to use.
The Scouts have their own water transport. We need adults to work with the Ag Students. We also need volunteers and water craft to work the banks of the River East of Loop 163.
If you can help or donate a canoe for the morning, please contact Martha Gosnell at (830) 833-0586.
