American Gangster
Keith–The hype surrounding American Gangster, in my opinion, was dead on. This is just good storytelling about Frank Lucas and his heroin rise to the top as Harlem’s drug lord back in the early 1970’sand and the cop that took him on. Denzel & Russell are superb as always and I was intrigued from the first minute to the last. This isn’t overly brutal except for a few scenes and is just a lot of fun to watch as these actors nail their roles and take us back to one of the more horrible times in Harlem’s history. 3 ½ paws.
Noel–Well, Keith told me that I had to review this movie whether I liked it or not (I still love him) and guess what…I didn‘t like the movie and would have rather reviewed a different movie but such is life. I’m not against the movie nor did I hate it, but it is not “my” kind of movie. American Gangster is a true gangster story, one which we have all seen at least once in our lives, about a drug lord and a cop. I thought that this movie was predictable and I felt like one of the problems with this movie is that it portrays the drug lord (Washington) in a sympathetic way and the cop (Crowe) in a stupid honest fool way. I had a feeling before I watched this movie that I probably wouldn’t like it and I was right! 2 paws.
