Time is running out to buy your tickets for the Friends of the Blanco Library’s Texas Authors: A Celebration on Saturday, March 8, at Gem of the Hills Community Center. Texas historian Candice DuCoin will discuss her history of the conflicts between lawmen and outlaws on the Texas frontier, a story which has long fascinated her. A native of Waller, Texas, and current resident of Round Rock, DuCoin grew up on a farm hearing these old tales. Her book, Lawmen on the Texas Frontier: Rangers and Sheriffs, traces a hundred years of these conflicts between men of the Jones family and such famous villains as John Wesley Hardin. Captain Frank Jones served in Texas Ranger Company D, the company that fought the infamous Olguin Gang on Pirate Island. Frank’s brothers also served as Rangers during the days of the Frontier Forces and Frontier Battalion. W. E. Jones, a sheriff of Gonzales County for four terms, fought the dangerous outlaw, John Wesley Hardin.

DuCoin is a member of the National Association for Outlaw and Lawman History, the Wild West History Association, and the former Texas Rangers Association in Kerrville. Her love of the crafts of primitive cultures has led her to travel extensively in Mexico, Central and South America, Australia, and New Zealand.

DuCoin will join three other Texas authors--Marci Henna, Suzanne Morris, and Austin landscape designer Jill Nokes—in discussing and signing their books at this exciting and informative event, where books can be signed and purchased. Lunch, prepared by Sibby Barrett of Onion Creek Kitchens and her committee of volunteers, will include Roasted Garlic Pimiento Cheese Sandwiches, Rosemary Toasted Almond Chicken Salad Sandwiches, Raspberry Cream Cheese Brownies, Lemon Shortbread Bars, assorted chips, coffee, iced tea, water, and soft drinks. Tickets for the event, which begins at 9:30 a.m. and lasts till 3 p.m., are $15 at the Blanco Library and $17 at the door the day of the event.
