Following a strong showing at the Bexar County Livestock Judging Contest in January, several local students took part in the livestock judging contests at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. Blanco’s senior team did well finishing in the top 25% out of 229 teams in the senior division. Blanco FFA members competing in the senior division included: Carrie Lockwood, Katie Baker, Claire Klepac, Kaleigh Anderson, Keaton Dodd, Quaid Haack, Austin Thompson, and John Pepper. Individually, Kaleigh and Quaid would do well as each would place in the top 8% out of 783 contestants. In the junior division, Logan Dodd, Maggie Dennis, Alex Gustafson, and Gage Schnitz would finish 9th overall out of 100 teams with Alex, Maggie, and Logan all placing in the top 20%. There were 331 individuals judging in the junior division.
In addition to the livestock judging teams, Blanco’s dairy judging team also did well competing in the dairy division of this year’s S.A.L.E. dairy contest. Tucker Edmondson, Austin Smith, Aaron Thomson, Lacee Hunter, and Kelcee Hunter would finish in the top 50% as a team, while Tucker would rank in the top 25% individually.
Many of these same students will continue preparations for several other upcoming contests across the state throughout the spring semester.
