Charles William Rothenbach, age 62, passed away at his home on Sunday June 14, 2009. Born in Milwaukee, WI, on July10, 1946, he was the son of William Ray Rothenbach and Josephine Ludolf Rothenbach Lawhon. Charles attended public schools in Boerne and Blanco and later joined the U.S. Army where he served from 1966 thru 1969. His unit was Company D, 3rd Battalion and as a Hawk Missile Specialist, he served in the Vietnam War. Following his Honorable Discharge from Service, he worked in Austin, Texas for the U.S. Postal Service and it was during this time that he attended college. Charles was active and involved in various business ventures during his lifetime but he later retired to ranching in Kendalia where he thoroughly enjoyed all his animals.
Charles was active in the community, always willing to help others and was a volunteer with Keep Blanco Beautiful. He was also a member of the Kendalia Community Club and the American Legion.
Charles was preceded in death by his father and one son, Karl William Rothenbach, and his step-father Grover Lawhon. He is survived by his mother, Josephine Lawhon; children, Kerry Jay Rothenbach, Charles Will Rothenbach & wife Maribel, Robert Wright Rothenbach, Jason Jay Rothenbach, Charlotte Rhynard, Crystal Flores Rothenbach. Grandchildren, Jay, Clara, Jordan, Zoe, Chloe, Marianna, and Carmen. Sisters, Brenda Bankhead & husband Edward, Frances Olivarez & husband John, Brother, Bruce Lawhon & wife Iva.; Numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and a very dear cousin, Linda Howard of Blanco.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 18, 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The Funeral Service will be on Friday June 19, at Vaughan’s Funeral Home at 10:00am, with Pastor Paul Evans, officiating. Burial will follow in the Edge Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers are Joe Rothenbach, Gordon Waldeck, Mike Schuetz, Jim Russell, James Achterberg, Jason Olivarez, Dwayne Lawhon, Kevin Lawhon, Ryan Lawhon, Ignacio Arguello, Donald Weed, Ernesto Pinon, Milton Edge, Julio Cesar Pinon, and Joseph Anthony Nevarez. Honorary Pallbearers are Gary L. Caraway and James Krueger.
