Volunteers still needed for upcoming festival

It was a great kickoff weekend for Blanco Lavender Days. The opening reception for the Uptown Blanco Art Show set the tone with a packed house Friday evening. Guests enjoyed complimentary wine and cheese, violin music, and a beautiful display of art by regional artists. Many artists were there to greet visitors and to talk about their pieces.

Over 350 female runners raced to the finish at Texas Lavender Hills on Saturday morning, during the first annual 5K and 10K Lavender Fun Run produced by RunInTexas.com. Runners were treated to mimosas, breakfast tacos, massages, and other delights, including rows of lavender against a backdrop of beautiful Texas hills. Most runners reported that they loved the relaxing venue and would definitely do it again. Many found their way to other lavender farms throughout the day.

At Blanco River Lavender, there were several groups of folks who got to bottle their own lavender bubble bath, complete with antique-style decorations. That night, visitors took in a very clear view of Saturn, the moon’s surface, and other stars and planets, during “Stars Over Lavender”.

Things in the Blanco Chamber office were no less exciting. The first two ladies to complete their “I Went to All the Farms” tour came in to the Chamber on Monday morning to get the free gift they had earned, a Blanco Lavender Festival t-shirt. Blanco residents called and walked in all day to sign up to be a volunteer. (Even with 250 volunteers signed up, volunteers are still needed, especially for Sunday). Several reporters called throughout the week so they could share the beauty and fun of Blanco with their readers. Look for the Blanco Lavender Festival on WOIA’s San Antonio Living Show this Thursday at 10:00am.
