After holding prices steady in recent years, both Dish and DirecTV have announced price increases effective February 1, 2008.

Over the last 5 years, cable TV prices have increased 100% (national average) while satellite TV pricing has not changed. Dish and DirecTV have now implemented small price increases.

Dish still provides the lowest price available with the Family Package at only $19.99 per month. In addition, Dish announced that their highly popular DVR Advantage (Digital Video Recorder) packages would not only stay the same as 2007 pricing but would guarantee those 2007 prices until February 2009. DirecTV pricing differs from Dish in that all packages include local channels at no additonal charge. They are increasing all programming packages $2.00-$3.00/mo.
