Are you looking for activities close by and FREE for your kids to participate in this summer? Check out the Bulverde/Spring Branch Library’s summer program with the theme, “Libraries: Deep in the Heart of Texas.”

“The program will run from Monday, June 1 through Friday, August 14 with something for everybody,” says Library Director Susan Herr. The Bulverde/Spring Branch summer program has four distinct parts.

First, there are the “Read-for-Prizes” programs for children and teens. Just 10 books or 5 hours read earn children and teens their first prize. After that, each 10 books or 5 hours read earns an additional prize until the deadline of Friday, August 14. This is longer than we have ever run this program,” says Librarian Sam Salas.

Then, there are the very popular Wednesday Morning Series of programs. The library brings some of the best edu-tainers in Texas to our library. “These have turned into real family events with a warm community feeling. Everyone from babes in arms to grandparents turn out for these,” says Summer Program Coordinator Mary Pettit. “There will be a total of eleven different and wonderful programs each Wednesday, June 3 through August 12 that are generally aimed at the age 5-11 crowd, but enjoyable for the whole family. This is two weeks longer than we have run these in the past,” says Pettitl The Wednesday morning programs will kick off on June 3 at 11:00am with a performance by The Biscuit Brothers of PBS Television fame.

“Camp Library” is a part of the summer program has grown each year. It takes place in June and July. “Camp Library” is made of up age-specific classes and events for toddlers on up,” says Library Camp Coordinator, Sue Ann Lamarre. “This year we have more events than ever before!” Such events as a Ringling Brothers Clown, Doc Edwards Amazing Aquifer Adventure, Toddler Storytime, Art Time Parties, Puppet Shows, Book Discussion Groups, Readers Theatre, Gardening, Archaeology, and Yoga and are just a few of the events planned for early June.

Pre-registration is required for many (but not all) Camp Library events due to limited supplies and space. Pre-registration for June events begins Wednesday, May 20 and pre-registration for July events begins Monday, June 15.
