The Blanco Library is the proud owner of a book about the Life of Eli Clement Hinds. After 16 years of diligent research by Karen Hines and her patient husband, the story of one of Blanco’s founding fathers is now available for the citizens of Blanco to read. The two volume set was given to the library by the descendants in memory of Eli’s many contributions to Blanco County and the establishment of Pittsburgh and eventually Blanco. Sixteen descendants gathered on February 28, 2009 at the Blanco Library to present the two volumes. Dorothy Trimble, Assistant Librarian, and Linda Howard, Chair of Blanco Historical Preservation Commission received the descendants and took possession of the books.
The descendants requested that everyone in Blanco know about the books, be able to have access to the books, and the books should never leave the genealogy room of the library. Dorothy assured the descendants that the books would be available in the genealogy room for everyone to read but, as with all the genealogy material, no one can take the material from the Library. Linda thanked all present for the contribution to the history of Blanco since little is known of many of the founders or original families of Blanco. Linda requested that Karen work toward getting the Hinds story on the National Register of Historic Stories.
The descendants present were Stella (West) and Carl Zieglar, Frank West, Laura Hazel Price, Bonnie Dechert, Sonja Hartmann, Donna Lux, Sandra (Stewart) and Richard Holzmann, Gloria (West) Nance, Jane (Aly) Waldrop, Connie West, Tracy and Karen Hines, Philip O. West for Laurie L. West.
The Blanco Library welcomes descendants of early Blanco families to donate a copy of their family tree to the genealogy room, family researchers to use our library’s genealogy room and avid readers to just sit in the room and read a good story. Eli Clement Hinds story will be available after we have put it into our library system.
